Banarsi - The Langra, also known as BanarasiLangra,[1] is a mango cultivar primarily grown in Banaras, Northern India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. [2][3] This cultivar retains a greenish tinge while ripening. It is normally harvested during the last half of July. Around 2006, it was known to be gaining popularity on the international market.[4] It is considered suitable for slicing and canning.[5]Langra is the prominent variety of mango and one of the most superior variety of Mango from the Northern India, Langra mangoes are originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
BanarasiLangra is a famous mango variety cultivated in Varanasi. According to a legend, it was first cultivated in the farmlands of a ‘lame’ man, which is why the name langra. Oval-shaped, it is green in colour even when it is ripe. Available from July to August, it is a fibrous variety that is exported across the country and the world.
